The 'pimps' of a Birmingham prostitute beat up and killed one of her clients after she claimed she had been sexually assaulted, it has been alleged.
Berry-Parkes has also pleaded not guilty to theft. Edward Franklin KC, prosecuting, said: "The defendants were the minders of a sex worker. Mr Franklin said she had visited the victim at his home and claimed 'something went wrong during the visit'. The jury was then told, the woman told the defendants that she had been sexually attacked and said the pair 'confronted him in the corridor outside his flat'. Mr Franklin added: "The prosecution understands that Hamad accepts attacking Mr Abdalaah and causing his death but denies murder.
The defendants, who were in a Peugeot, then parked directly in front of Mr Abdalaah, said Mr Franklin. The prosecutor told the court that the prostitute got out of their vehicle and met Mr Abdalaah. The victim visited a cash point and went to a supermarket before then taking the woman to his flat which was in a block in Guild Close, he added.
Mr Franklin said they were followed by the two defendants who parked nearby. The prosecutor said CCTV captured the movements of the defendants and that the prostitute at one point emerged from a side entrance. The KC said she could be heard saying 'I want my bag' and was trying to get back into the block. There came a point, said Mr Franklin, when the defendants got in and another resident heard a commotion and looked outside his door. Mr Abdalaah was lying face down on the floor with his trousers pulled down.
He saw Hamad with his left arm around Mr Abdalaah's neck in what appeared to be a chokehold. He saw Berry-Parkes bent over and crouching down. He saw blood around Mr Abdalaah's mouth. He said the resident called the emergency services and when paramedics arrived they found Mr Abdalaah, who had suffered multiple injuries.
