Just got back from RP and the city was very quiet. We stayed at Playa de Oro RV park and there was only a handful of trailers and motor homes at the park. The town was very safe, no issues. At the border we just drove up to customs. No wait. I just got back too, stayed one week. This time entering mexico both US and mexican side stops and questions you. Arriving in rocky point I found it to be very hot and humid still, I exchanged my dollars into pesos at first casa de cambio, it works better that way.
Calle 13 near hotel senorial is full of desperate prostitutes, most of joints were closed there do to lack of american tourists. Mex army was patroling the streets they even had a ckeckpoint set up near the beach at night, I got photos and video to prove it. There is a big mafia presense in RP and I got that information from local resident thats why military is present there.
As for the prices of food and hotel tooms, it is too expensive for mexico, people there struggle to make ends meet. We are planning a trip to RP two weeks from now. We usually go times a year but havent been back since last October.
VivaPenasco's post has me a little worried now. I am going with my wife, 10 year old and 2 dogs. We always stay at Granada del Mar next to Playa de Oro rv park.
I have yet to get a hold of any one at Granda del Mar and now im worried about the mafia presence. Do either of you regret going down there? HoleinoneDr, did you notice if Granada del Mar or their bar, Sammy's bar, was open?
