For some of us this was our 3rd time in Maga so we knew what to expect. We stayed at Sol Wave House last year and thought we would stay at Mallorca Rocks this year with it being one of the best rated hotels in the area. We were not aware we had to pay this. We were told we would get this back on checking out. We were given a small receipt for purchasing this and a safe you do not get the deposit back for the safe.
Make sure you keep your receipt for checking out because without this you will not get the deposit back - I think this must be how they make a lot of their money. At first we couldn't find ours and tried to argue that if we hadn't paid the deposit we wouldn't be checking out but they still wanted the receipt in order to refund the deposit paid.
We were also shocked to find the rooms were not air conditioned. We also found that between the hours of am the local prostitutes would take their customers down the alleyway that our balcony looked out onto so we got a free peep show every night! Luckily the girls I travelled with are not prudish and we laughed about it but I can imagine for other young girls this might not be something you want to see every night.
The prostitutes are all the way down the walk from the hotel to the strip and we quite often saw guys running away from them. Would advise for people to hold onto their handbags etc when walking down here. The rooms were very basic but were okay as it was really just somewhere for us to shower and sleep.
I think this was the only time the room was cleaned. We got to see Dj Fresh, shy FX and example while we were there and they were all awesome. You have to be careful when there are events on though as the security are strict and do not let you back into the hotel with drinks etc.
