Average quality hotel, but friendly and very polite staff. Perfect location. All three nights our neighbors had a crazy sex party. We could hear even their conversation, not just their extremely loud screaming because of thin walls. It was awful stay in Kiev Never and never again I will stay there. We stayed 11 days at Podol Plaza Hotel and since we were there partly for business, it was chosen for us.
Lucky us! The hotel is located a block and a half from the Metro and within walking distance to drug stores, wonderful restaurants, and various sights to see. We arrived late around 1am and were greeted by warm and friendly staff. My room was and overlooked the main street front of the hotel. I was concerned after having read reviews but it truly was no problem. I loved to open both windows during the day to let the breeze in and hear the hustle of the city and at night, the windows drowned any noise.
The walls, however, are not the same. I could hear the person in above me coughing throughout the night and the person in banged on my wall when I received a late phone call. I'm somewhat of a light sleeper and had no problem sleeping. At first I was discouraged that I had two twin beds but in the end, it was fine since it was just me. The shower was good except quite manic it would go from hot to cold in a nano-second leaving me dancing in the shower! I was reliant on internet to connect to my family and had absolutely no problems when in my room.
When I went to a co-worker's room in the back of the hotel , I had difficulty with internet access. For this reason alone, I would recommend the front rooms. Every morning, we went for the breakfast buffet that was included with our room. It was too cold to each breakfast in the courtyard patio in the morning but by the afternoon, it was a pretty, quiet place to hang out. Breakfast was good! The same food was offered each day but with such a variety, you could switch up it.
In addition to the buffet, they will make a made-to-order omlette, fried eggs or eggs benedict -- you simply have to ask. No added charge! The wait staff were pleasant and Vladislav stood out. He worked so hard at making sure all our needs were met, was a trooper at communicating in English, and recalled that my co-worker liked her morning latte.
