The drivers side header fits fine. Any easy fixes? This is a big block 4-speed car. I am considering cutting and bending the collector and welding up the cut. What else can I do? How can I tell what I have and if they are reversed? If the car was originally a small block car,you will need to change the pads to big block units.
A tip: If you need to change the pads, pull the motor. It will save time. Except in my situation my engine was stock and I bought Hooker Compeititon headers. This also made my exhaust sit a little unparallel. My exhaust tailpipes are uneven but you can't really tell unless you know that it is like that thank God. Luckily mine bolted up alright except for it being uneven. I had a couple people tell me to actually try and bend the headers down or to hit my floorboard with a sledge hammer.
I haven't had my car runnning yet so hopefully there is no rattle or clunk from the engine torque and causing the headers to hit the floorbaord. Let me know what you end up doing. The culprit was the body mounting bushing that had deteriated so much that the body was basically sitting on the frame, causing the body to be closer to the header. I confirmed that my motor mount brackets are correct for my big block car. I did replace the rubber motor mounts with new parts store mounts.
I am wondering if they are thicker then the origionals. Does anyone know how thick the correct motor mounts were? I am considering cutting the collector so I can bend it into position and mig welding the cut area up. What clearence should I maintain with the floor to be safe? There is the very good possibility that the header was manufactured incorrectly and just needs to be replaced.
