My disappointment could be due to the false advertising of the place by people I knew. I was under Casa de la Musica is a nice place to hear great live music. But depending on your viewpoint, the large number of prostitutes don't make for a family night out. You probably wouldn't want to take a date either. Otherwise, it's a good time. Went to the Casa de la Musica, Miramar, last saturday. They were featuring a great local band or so we heard.
You MUST get there early around 11pm when they open to get seating. Otherwise you will be standing in a very packed room. In short do you want company and pay for it? When we had waited 1,5 hours and the band had still not gone on , and the requests were now every seconds they dont take no for an answer the first time , we decided to leave without seeing the band.
Not a good experience. The music was fantastic. Adalberto Alvarez Y su Son was great and we enjoyed an excellent night. We had a great night out, we met some cubans who recommended it for salsa, so we went along without checking any listings. We ended up not at a salsa night but a club night for young cubans, but it had loads of on stage entertainment and it was a lot of fun.
Unfortunately not a night to remember on the night we went, although we had heard really good reviews. The place was practically empty and they were playing "Reggaeton" [--] and we prefer salsa, so we left early very early. First time i got there was on my second day in Havana. Led by a cute boy from Obispo street i got in one moment from the hot tropical afternoon to a terrific salsa night.
I don't remember much from my first evening there, only that the music was great. If you CAN dance it's definetly a place for you. Actually it's a live concert lounge with a dancefloor infront of the stage and tables in cabaret style. All styles of cuban music is performed there, from rap to classic salsa.
