Four defendants of Belgian, Spanish, and Dutch nationality were indicted in as perpetrators or co-perpetrators of human trafficking with the purpose of sexual exploitation. The judgment centered around the defendants' use of manipulative techniques, particularly the "loverboy" tactic, to ensnare young girls. Notably, the victims were primarily underage and resided in a center for minors; therefore, they were in a vulnerable position.
Some of the charges brought to trial concerned the sexual exploitation of the fourth defendant and another victim by the first and second defendants. The defendant 4 filed a complaint in , emphasizing that she had been forced to prostitute herself in hotels and in an empty house for several months, and was obliged to hand over her earnings to the other defendants.
The fourth defendant was found to have a relationship and a child with the third defendant, who persuaded her into recruiting young victims.
Both the third and the fourth accused were found to approach girls in institutional care facilities and assist them in escaping the lodges. The defendants let the young girls live at their house, went partying with them, and used drugs and alcohol with the victims.
In exchange, the girls were persuaded into becoming prostitutes. Both defendants were also found to have set up the appointments, reserved the hotel rooms, and collected the money. In some situations, the girls were found to be locked in their hotel rooms by the accused. The third defendant was discovered to employ violence and threats against the girls on a regular basis, and was reportedly in possession of an alarm pistol.
