There are a few international little restaurants around and also lots of street foods. There are some fancy hostess bars with loud music and a few cheap bars where customers sit on little plastic chairs, ordering those local snacks and watching people walk about. What also around that street, money changer, illegal motor bikes taxi, massage parlours, prostitutes, pimps, drug dealers, pick pockets, amateur kids fire tricks, hotels and convenience stores. The street is only good for people who like this kind of atmosphere, definitely not for family as the music noise goes until around 2 am and on week-ends pass that time.
We stayed one night at the Beautiful Saigon hotel facing this street and hardly got any sleep due to the noise from the nightclubs. Dingy bars, sour faced waitresses, packed with cars and speeding motorbikes despite being called Walking Street.
I walked up and down this street one a recent weeknight. Stopped in a couple of the more quiet places for drinks and to watch the action on the street. As others have noted, it is like Khao San Road in Bangkok.
Full of backpackers, bars, guesthouses, restaurants, and noise. If that's your scene, then you will love Bui Vien Street. Very noise street, I like this street so much, drink and enjoy some music. But I can not find any place to eat. Bar after bar after bar. If you're a male without a female, you will be approached repeatedly by the girls working the parlours. It's definitely interesting, but only for a short burst IMO.
