Off to Vietnam at the beginning of June - will be starting from the bottom arriving down the mekong from cambodia and then working our way up to hanoi. Will be stopping in HCMC , nha trang depending on responses to this! Anyway - in Nha Trang Im looking for beautiful beaches, restaurants, markets and nice nightlife. Im in my early twenties and looking for culture mixed with some good old beach life whilst in nha trang.
Or would you recommend bypassing this for Hoi An? Hoi An is lovely if you want some quiet culture World heritage town but the beach is quite a ride from town. Various tailors ones in the Cloth market are poor quaity though very cheap. In HCMC make sure you eat one night at the night food market beside the Ben thanh markets - fantastic! Im pooing it as ive never been but my partner has been offered a job at the sailing club as a scuba diving instructor so if you want an english buddy i will be around, alone and job less :. We did do the river trip, but went the opposite way, going from chau doc to phnom penh. We enjoyed the scenery along the way, as well as socializing with the other passengers on the boats. I dont know if you can save that much money doing the mekong delta on your own.
The tours are pretty cheap. We did it on our own, but it did take some patience and research and knowing that there are way more opportunities to be scammed by locals along the way.
I just prefer doing small private tours instead of being in herds of people. We stayed there over a month last year and went to many bars and never ran across such prices. This was at girlie bars which were priced higher than your average beer bar. When looking for a place with nice beaches, there are so many more factors that go into deciding where to vacation.
