Well, I actually never managed to stay there as I have been refused a room twice. In both occasions it was fairly obvious that, despite what they claimed, the place it wasn't full at all. The German owner has trained his staff to refuse accomodation to single caucasian males, I can't think of any other reason.
I am clean and shaved, educated, with a professional look and travelling with my own car, so the policy of this little hotel is very strange to say the least.
They are probably worried that you bring in prostitutes for the night? I think so. A word of warning to male, caucasian solo travellers: this place wouldn't welcome you unless you are probably over 60 and with your wife along. Luckily there are plenty of more welcoming places along the sea promenade of Prachuap KK. I really enjoyed my stay in Sunbeach guest house, it is on the "more expensive" scale if you are a backpacker! The room is big, clean and comfortable and it was great having a pool!
The staff were friendly and helpful and the only bad thing was that the hotel was so popular we couldn't extend our stay for another night as everything was booked up! Lovely place and the staff are really friendly and welcoming. Definitely felt like home away from home. Love love love the place. We had a lovely room overlooking the bay with breathtaking sunrises and sunsets.
Will definitely be back. This hotel is excellent value for money. The whole place is spotlessly clean, like it's brand new. The locations and views are great and the staff are friendly. Nice pool with plenty of sun chairs. Also Prachuap is a really lovely place for a couple of relaxing days.
