Hi, we plan to visit Constanta this summer traveling from Bucharest. What are some of the best places to stay or hang out. We like to keep costs down so any advice on cheap food and drink is welcome too. Do you want to stay in Constanta city proper or in the resorts around it? Obviously, it would be cheaper to stay in Constanta than in the resorts. The interesting part of the city is the old town the peninsula on the east side of the city , but the cheaper accommodations can be found in neighborhoods further inland, away from the sea.
I rented an apartment in the area Tomis Nord ,it's cheaper than hotels in the high season and the area is quite good, near the beaches and supermarkets.

Yes, not easy go get info on Constanta , seasoned opened on May the 1st, everybosy is out poartying and having fun in Mamaia. I will try to help you. I am originally from Constanta, and I visit it yearly, I will try to help you. I used to live in Tomis Nord, someone mentioned that above, just minutes from Mamaia.
By the way, Mamaia is not a beach. It a resort with a long stretch of hotels, many hotels and many beaches, most and the best of them are private. Something like Varadero, Cuba. Constanta is great during summer, you made a good choice. Now, I don't know what is your style and whether you are a budged or a posh traveler but if you look for a 3 bedroom apartment in Mamaia will be little hard to accomplish.
Mamaia doesn't have large apartment buildings where common people live, it is a mix of old communist hotels refaced and renovated and new ones that can be as expensive as Vegas.
