History behind the design

With over 160000 cars made in history, the 944 was the most successful creation in Porsche's history until the introduction of the Boxster. The 944 bridged the price and performance gap between the 924 and the 911. Although the body of the 944 was based on the 924, it was very different and didn't have a lot of Volkswagen development carry-over. The 944 also featured a 2.5 or 3.0 - litre in-line four-cylinder engine developed by Porsche. Today it is an appreciating classic and an important model in Porsche line up.
