The guests arrived in their finery this morning but it is turning out to be an overcast start to the first day of the event held on the banks of The River Thames. The Met Office forecasted sunny spells and scattered showers today after last week's heatwave scorched the UK. While the rain is mainly affecting Scotland and Northern Ireland , those at the Royal Regatta will be crushed to see the dark clouds overhead.
Those gathered to watch the Wimbledon Championships were also pictured sporing bright coasts, coverings and umbrellas. Spectators sit in the rain and drink champagne as play is suspended during first round matches at the Wimbledon tennis championships - protected by funky rain coverings.

A reveller in a summer dress looks glum as she uses a cardigan to shelter from the rain. Umbrellas are a common sight today as guests protect their finery from the rain. The breezy and cloudy conditions will spread in the far northwest later with outbreaks of rain. Tonight, rain will spread eastwards across Scotland, Northern Ireland and northern England as the south remains cloudy.
But temperatures are still hovering around 20C in some areas today, with the rain easing in the south as the day goes on.
