Im planning a trip in september to san juan del sur for 3 weeks or so. The reason - to get away from US and immerse myself in foreign land, lie on beaches, meet people and drink and party. Not so much surfing tho.
This is my first trip to central america. I've researched and will probably be staying at either casa de oro or pacha mama hostel. I'm 30 year old male who will be traveling solo. I wanted to ask a question from folks who know, am i gonna fit in the age group of other travelers in san juan, in general and the above-mentioned hostels, in particular? I'd appreciate your comments and experiences posted on this board. One thing I do know is you will not be "immersing yourself" in Nicaragua.
San Juan Del Sur is probably the worst place in Nicaragua to "get away from the US and immerse yourself in a foreign land". My friend who grew up in Santa Cruz recently visited there and said he couldnt believe how much it reminded him of his childhood home, it was like he never left.
You can go into coffee shops and have 50 people inside, and not a single local, including the owners. It is the place to drink and party though, so youll fit in there. There are a lot of year olds looking to party and lie on the beach, so in that way you should fit in too. Its a party town, and the area is beautiful and worth a see Not sure why you are so anti-foreigner and think places with tourists are bad? Sure Granada is touristy Getting a view of the camp is great, but most visitors don't want that all the time.
You have no reviews of Granada restaurants or hotels posted here. That may be the reason you are dead wrong about "going into to a place and finding no Nicaraguans there".
