I was reading yesterday about a mosaic tile project going on at Lazaro Cardenas park and something about it undergoing a face lift or renos. I've seen the mosaic wall just up the road from the park that have been there for some time I read you can get involved and create your own tiles I can't find the information I saw yesterday.
Back then they were doing the initial cement forms. You'll see how the cement benches have had a "wave" shaped added to the front them? Then to be tiled, was the plan. When we were there in December we saw several pillars and sidewalk designs that had recently been put up or were currently being worked on. One lady had herself perched up next to one of the back pillars of the open aired theatre there and she was gluing on pieces.
It was nice and shady for her. The various different groups of people were not working at it every day- just certain days. Thank you Yaknak. I just joined their FB page. Looks interesting. Yes, and also if you want a tile for a bench or a commemorative for a wall, planter, bench, etc.
That is another great group to join That is looking downright spectacular in the plaza!! I can't believe how much progress has been made in just three months. I didn't realize the extent of surfaces to be covered in the plan.
What a nice face-lift for the park and great project for artists at work. It is nice and getting nicer. Please join a group, or just help out by keeping the areas clean. Sometimes when I sit on the benches and there are trash cans a few feet away, I just cannot believe that people sit and just leave their trash.
