He often uses plants as cyphers, borrowing from their structure, care, and maintenance to think about intimate and personal experiences. The work fills the gallery with an earthy, moist aroma β some natural and some processed, like the tree and the bodies that have laid over it.
Glistening and ephemeral, the soap is a stand-in for the tree; an intimate object that is used and consumed. It touches and rubs against our bodies, smoothing and disintegrating over time. Employing light and scent as key elements in his sculptural work, Yeung transforms the gallery to explore the fluid interplay between night and day, public and private life, hiding from others and being seen.
