For more than four years, a North Fort Myers couple ran an international sex tourism company out of their Southwest Florida home, arranging for customers to travel to the Dominican Republic to meet with women there, New York prosecutors said.
This week, Jennifer and Alfred Cotten each pleaded not guilty in a New York City court to a charge of promoting prostitution. The Human Trafficking Response Unit in Manhattan, one of the largest nationwide, is handling the case and brought charges under a New York law that says anyone selling sex on a website that functions in that state can be prosecuted.
Jennifer Cotten, 48, was behind Alfred and did not respond to questions. The two were arrested Aug. They were released without bond from the Hillsborough County Jail on Wednesday. Their next New York court date is Nov.
Records show the couple ran the business from North Fort Myers by phone and email, through their website TropicalAdultVacations. A local associate in the Dominican Republic ran day-to-day operations of the resort, a news release from the New York County District Attorney shows.
Although the website since has been taken down, and the voice mail rings through to a message recorded before Aug. Companions were permitted to eat off the menu alongside you, not from a separate list of options. An associate would pick up each customer from the airport and bring them to their private room at the resort, where they were allowed to pick their companion. For additional fees, customers could take part in travel excursions and other sightseeing in the Dominican Republic.
