Hi there, we use cookies to improve your experience on our website. You can update your settings by clicking the Privacy policy link at the bottom of the page. Does anyone have an idea of prices for accommodation, transport, restaurants etc? Searching online unearthed the following link this accurate? It's been a few years since I was in Azerbaijan. When I was there, there was a huge discrepancy between Baku and the rest of the country. Baku was a little pricey particularly accommodation - you could eat cheaply if you wanted, and public transportation was pretty cheap but the rest of the country was not.
However, in many places, the only formal accommodation options were geared entirely to rich Bakuites, and so were expensive. Apart from accommodation, I'd be surprised if anything else in Azerbaijan was a real budget killer these days. Giora, laurent, Thank you both for the details.
This is very good news since some people I'd spoken with told me how horrendously expensive it was but they were there quite a while ago. Now that I think of it, I remember in huge numbers of Azerbaijanis in Tabriz, Iran seeking medical help. With devaluation of Iran's currency at the the time they came in droves for the better quality health care at significantly cheaper prices. I don't have any book on Azerbaijan yet but what in your opinions are the must-sees? Must avoids? How long did you spend in the country?
I spend a little over three weeks in Azerbaijan. I was there in winter, so didn't hike. Baku and the surrounding area is the most interesting region of the country. Seki is the one "must-see" sight - the palace there is stunning, and it's a nice little town. I also found Quba and the surroundings interesting. It's a good place to experience something of the ethnic diversity of the Caucasus. I was approaching by police office to delete my photo, after deleted it, i feel that i was followed by him since i still see him in the train station when i want to exchange my ticket.
I feel a bit paranoid that he followed me also to hostel but i didnt see him after. Lesson, never ever take photo inside the metro in Baku.
