I'm from the UK. Transport from the airport was easy enough. Only one exit was closed due to damage but there are about 3 exits anyway. Went out around Victoria Park at around 3pm. Was lovely weather and people doing exercising and others sleeping in the warmth. Just heard on the news some petrol bombs have been thrown around Kowloon station but again these do not really affect us here.
Not seen one person in HK that wasn't just going about their business and people here are super friendly. If you've planned a trip here then my advice would be to still come.
I'll try and keep you updated as we are only here for 4 nights. Thanks OP for taking the time to post a trip report. It is handy to know what it's like from a tourist's perspective. As recent visitors ourselves I can also appreciate the comments of the OP. We arrived on a late Sunday afternoon in September, knowing that weekends were the active time for protests. We had problems getting to our hotel in Wanchai, Airport Express was closed and many buses cancelled.
In the end we managed to get a bus which dropped us off about 2 miles from intended drop. No taxi would take us to Wanchai, to our benefit a local family also on route to Wanchai led us through the street to our hotel. Apart from that night the rest of our trip was undisturbed. We didn't see or hear any more protesting.
We had a great time sightseeing. That was a month ago but the protests have recently been more frequent and look uglier on the news. Thank you to OP for the update and post. I am sure it is helpful to many visitors who are planning their trip to HK and hopefully it helps ease some worries and uncertainty.
