Our one night at the Vela was one night too many. Our room had no linens, no wifi and although technically clean, was not comfortable at all. The beds were small, low to the ground, and rock hard. While waiting in the lobby for our wifi to be fixed, I saw many, many groups of prostitutes and gentlemen come and go.
We got out of there the next morning as fast as possible. If you are traveling for business, this might work for you, but we are a family with a young baby and were horrified. We will never, never stay there again. Please put UP a layer to cover it up. More privacy in toilet. The ceiling is leaking water due to heavy rain and my luggage is wet. Sadly, the hotel failed to meet my personal expectation and when we got to discuss our experience among friends who were in the same trip; most, if not all, had a bad experience from sliding doors of bathroom not working, to intermittent hot water in the shower area to refs in the room having room temp, dirty linens, tired and dark towel that must be retired already, etc.
I'll never go back to this hotel ever again. I don't think this qualifies as a 4-star hotel. I have compared it to another 4-star hotel nearby, and the VELA definitely falls short in service and quality.
Our room was small and clean. Everything worked properly. The room was modestly appointed. The refrigerator had a few free simple snacks oreo wafers, iced tea, peanuts, bottled water that were restocked each day. Sounds in the hallway were clearly audible in the room, but the noise of the busy street outside was sufficiently muffled. The front desk service was limited but sufficient. If I had expected a three-star hotel, I would have been satisfied.
I would probably not stay at this hotel again: there are better options in Hong Kong even in the same neighborhood for the same or a lower price. Stayed at the Vela hotel for 2nights. First time at the hotel I was a bit shocked how a 4 star hotel looks like, it might be just Hong Kong. Anyways after entering the hotel I saw the lobby, and that was another shocker, so small and only 1staff member. Checkin was pretty easy and fast, received my card and went to my room.
