You can walk from town, to the fjord filled with glacial ice, which is packed with icebergs, waiting to separate and float to the open ocean. This walk takes One of the world's most stunning glaciers. This site can be seen very well by walking to the Unesco heritage trail but must be completed by a fly over as it is so huge that you can only realize it's size through a flight.
Helicopter is of course great but expensive. Hard to explain how large this glacier is. Our pilot did a great job of making sure we all had views of the ice, the blue glacial pools and the glaciers as they made their way down the fjord. Now, Ive seen a few glaciers in my time, but nothing as spectacular as this! You need to be fairly fit to withstand the journey there, which Id say was a tad more than bumpy!.
