There are a lot of such horror stories - this form of relationship with foreigners often leads to financial or other exploitation. After all, who would be daft enough to sign a document in a foreign language that they do not understand.
In fact, the legality of documents signed by persons who do not understand Arabic has been questioned before and, if the staff of civil registration offices are on the ball, they are supposed to refuse to validate the document if one signatory is believed to not understand the language a document is written in.
This I know for a fact as it has happened in various offices in Cairo. Having said that, there is no onus on a hotel to accept the document.
It is not a legal marriage document. If it was, you could get it registered at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and then apply for the "marriage" to be registered at the Canadian embassy. Is it also not strange that this document is never used by an Egyptian lady to get hitched up with a foreign man - just the other way round?? Or by two Egyptians. Not surprising seeing that the tragic case of Mariam Mostafa or Mustafa as some media write it has been featured so much in the Egyptian media and is a clear reminder to those campaigning in the UK for LP that there are more deserving and more tragic causes.
