Thank you for sharing. But I need say that this is one of the worst book on The Doors and Jim. He repeats distorted informations, unfounded gossips, using doubtful and "mysterious" sources. Wall treats gossips, speculations and fantasies as facts; and he accepts them without checking the stories and opinions of "friends" and lovers or other frustrated and opportunistic parties. Wall repeats triumphantly and arrogantly old, refuted and doubtful stories as new discoveries and as ultimate truth.
For example, he accepts Bernett's version of Morrison's death as the absolute truth and does not examine the serious contradictions in the story โ in other words, he does not do the job that a professional journalist or researcher would do, as a matter of course. There is not, for instance, source criticism or serious investigation. He also uses pseudo-psychological and false arguments. He tries to construct a totally negative picture of Morrison in a obsessisional and pathetic way, and ignores all facts favorable to the artist.
This book lacks all objectivity, but the purpose is clear: to discredit Morrison โ both the man and the artist. But I need say that this is one of the worst book of The Doors and Jim. I understand. I like Jakobs' book too. My favorite are Lisciandro's Friends Gathered Together. Sure, it's not a biography but we learn more on Jim's personality and life than from all so-called biographies. I also had a lot of fun John and Ray's books reading them simultaneously.
I think both had remorse that they did not confess, but a lot of the distortions are result of their remorse. And I am waiting very much Robby's memoires. Do you read French? The second book it seems interesting from biographical point of view, because I think that Mary was more important in life of Jim, and she had a greater impact on his artistical evolution than the biographers thought.
I agree, the quotes are more trustworthy than authors interpretation although some author uses quotes in very creative wayโฆ For example Davis quotes one of McClure phrases from his interview with Lisciandro in a totally different context and gives the quote a absolutely other meaning. Kenneally's books are undesirable books also for me. Kenneally, Huddleston etc.
