Child welfare organisations on Tuesday said they received an increase in reports of children being forced into prostitution in the run up to the FIFA World Cup.
Government and non-government organisations have renewed calls for the protection of children during the soccer tournament. Some parents were reportedly prostituting children as young as ten for money or even beer.
Childline said they were expecting to log thousands more calls during the World Cup, as people are more likely to neglect their children and leave them vulnerable to exploitation.
