We stayed at the Riu Garoe just outside town, which we will review separately - though just quickly it's a lovely hotel. The weather. Of the seven days we were there we had one day of sunshine. The other six were cloud, wind and rain. It was for the most part a miserable few days meteorologically speaking.
Town centre. To our minds a depressing little place with very little to see or do. We couldn't wait to leave. Everything felt a little run down and a tatty. Aside from relatively easy access into Santa Cruz the capital , PDLC offers very limited access to the rest of the island unless you are prepared to pay expensive taxi fares or suffer arduous bus journeys or coach transfers.
Please be warned fun day out attractions such as the wonderful Siam Park are a good hour and a half away. We should add that this was a last minute booking and we will happily admit that we did not do the required research before making it, and have only ourselves to blame! PDLC did not offer the holiday we were looking for on multiple levels. Were someone to ask, we would always recommend visiting the South of the island. Nothing at all wrong with the south of the island.
It's where we always stay and we've never had a bad holiday. I think it depends more on which hotel you stay at as opposed to the place. I will pay a visit sometime in the near future. I'll just try and avoid the area's that get the worst airport noise. I know the south must have many good points or people would not visit year after year. Thanks MartynGarry. I tend to disagree with you Daisy.
I have absolutely no doubt that you and everyone else who visits the south of the island has a great time. For me it is not about the hotel I always stay in Casablanca , which as much as I love it, is a dated 80s apartment block with a tiny pool and a rubbish bar and awful entertainment but about the place.
