Police investigating an abandoned warehouse in eastern Wenzhou that was thought to be haunted discovered that the building was housing prostitutes and not ghosts.
A year-old villager surnamed Li told reporters that the warehouse sits next to a graveyard and has been abandoned for almost half a year. One time, when he was walking past the graveyard at night, he saw a light suddenly go on in the warehouse followed by moving shadows and muffled noises.
A few other villagers had similar encounters. During the day, the doors of the building remained shut, but when night time rolled around, dim lights could be seen inside the house. Certain that it must be haunted, they decided to report it to the police. Police had barely made it to the front door when they saw a used condom and realized they were dealing with a prostitution case.
After investigation, they discovered that two women were entering the building every night followed by another man, who then delivered groups of customers to the site. After observing the building for several nights, police were able to nab five suspects at the site.
The ringleader, a man surnamed Chen, admitted to setting up shop in the abandoned warehouse last May. Police told reporters that the building was incredibly messy and had a repulsive smell. It was around 15 square meters and was divided into two rooms, each with a bed. Chen has been detained while the other four suspects have been put under administrative detention.
