Momma Fox continues to beat out all other mothers because she had a Panera bagel waiting for me as soon as I got back on solid American ground. I wrote for three other blogs besides this one. Many of the ideas I had about the world and about myself were challenged. Being a Floridian, I had no idea what living through seasons was truly like. Awful and cold, as it turns out. Snow is beautiful and exciting for exactly three days.
However, I did learn how to dress in layers, and to start checking the forecast before I got dressed like a real grown up.
The Danes love to say that there is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing. I saw a lot of beautiful places, but most of my best memories involve meaningful conversations. I can do things by myself. I got to linger over activity brochures and in gift shops and stop to take as many pictures of graffiti as I wanted. Each time I did something for the first time it was a little scary, but new is really not as bad as I once thought.
I am so much more capable than I think I am, and I need to project this for future employers and the rest of the world to see. I once converted the amount in kroner to dollars and then blacked out a little bit and I forgot the number. Tom and Donna taught me the value of treating myself. The most valuable thing this semester has given me is incredible insight into the subject that I hope to turn into a career.
A lot of my classes at Tulane have focused on the theoretical aspects of this subject, but DIS allowed me to dig deeper. My Prostitution and the Sex Trade course was the best class I have ever taken. The course focused on giving as many real world perspectives on this this topic as possible. We learned about the benefits and disadvantages of different legal models and how they affected real people.
