We were also told that we couldn't receive a refund. Well their "sister" hotel was nothing short of a brothel. It was dirty, falling apart, and disgusting. There were people hanging out on the balcony looking excessively shady. We returned to Midas and demanded that something be done to remedy this situation.
There was NO way we were staying at Venus. We had been traveling all day and needless to say our patience was short. At this point, my husband went in to settle this matter. Shortly thereafter, Midas was calling around to find us a place to stay. We ended up at Cahal Pech for the night on Midas's dime, but the stress of it all was ridiculous. We booked 3 months in advance and neither Hotels. Beware of 3rd party booking sites! My husband and I stayed at Midas four five nights after a very disappointing time at another hotel in Belize City.
We were very happy to find that the staff was polite and eager to please. We did not have electricity for at least two hours every night that we stayed at Midas, however it was not the fault of the resort.
