The so-called 'Hangar d'Amour' will accommodate a bar, brewery and plaza as well as sex workers in Ostend on the North Sea coast. Officials hope the brothel will be safer for the prostitutes who will move out of the town's red-light district, which is called Hazegras. Prostitution is legal in Belgium, with around 26, women thought to be employed in the country's sex industry, the Guardian reports.

Johan Vande Lanotte, the town's mayor, said the disused hangar would be safer for prostitutes.
He said: 'The ladies will enter into a rental contract directly with the owner, as a result of which intermediaries will be excluded. Abuses will be excluded or certainly limited.
