Hi, Im visiting Djerba soon next week Saturday and was wondering if there were places to avoid because of too many female prostitutes or escorts. Not really. It depends on the definition, though - local women in public restaurants, especially when smoking a cigarette or Shisha and sitting alone at a table, are usually all considered to be prostitutes, whether they really were or not.
Since prostitution is illegal in Tunisia that is outside of the government ran brothels , you won't see them in public much and if you are a seasoned traveller in Tunisia, you will know that they often look exactly the opposite of what one might thought Afjab, if it is illegal how do you explain the red light area in Sousse medina then.
Really interests me although it is a very long time I ago I walked along it cause I thought the atmosphere was quite bubbling and open then My understanding is that government-sanctioned brothels are legal. Whether this has changed since the uprising not sure. Probably prostitution in street and bars illegal but hopefully Afjab will clarify.
