A combined team of Solwezi district council officials, Zambia police, health inspectors and stakeholders led by district commissioner Albert Chifita on Saturday swung into action closing illegal taverns and some guest houses. Chifita said the illegal premises have not complied with the provision of public health Act cap , food drug Act cap and local government Act Cap of the laws of Zambia. He said some of the illegal taverns were operating without toilets and were throwing litter anyhow thereby making the places very dirty.
He stated that the operation of the team was done to bring sanity to the district and stop the spread of cholera. Chifita and the team were saddened to find that two guest houses have been turned into brothels. He said in one guest house, many young ladies were found hibernating in their rooms pretending to have brought some merchandise into the district for sale. Police and council workers however locked up the premises after confiscating double mattresses and forcing all the ladies who were found in these rooms to leave immediately.
He pointed out that keeping prostitutes in rooms permanently for illicit activities was dangerous because some of them even harbor criminals in the same rooms. The number of prostitutes has increased in the recent past in Solwezi due to the mining activities. Morals yes, but do they have a constitutional right to carry out such an operation? If the lady can pay for the room, where is the problem? Being a prostitute does not mean they dont use condoms. Come on guys, dont pretend, ka? Tamubomfya ama condom?
Closing the illegal lodges, yes, but evicting these sisters of ours from legal lodges, no! Bamutana iya free ati close it? When its monthend in Solwezi and a week after, amahule yala shota!!! They are hooked up and it might temporary seen Solwezi is calm of prostitution!!! Legallise it and see how many will come forward to register. Mwandi, as a christian nation No! Lets flush them out for good.
They are polluting the environment ka. Good action but i think those sex workers have a right to be in those guest houses as long as they pay for them. Shame on such fathers and mothers. Aba ma sex fimo fimo have got rights too, you know. One official wants a free one and is turned down, ati i will close up the lodge! No where in the laws of Zambia does it say you should evict sex workers from lodges.
